The European Parliament and the Council have reached provisional agreement on a regulation setting, for the first time in the EU, strict CO 2 emission standards for trucks. Under the agreement, emissions from new trucks will have to be 15% lower by 2025 and 30% lower in 2030 compared to 2019 emissions. —Erik Jonnaert.

Mercedes-Benz has drafted corresponding standards together with all German automobile manufacturers and numerous suppliers in the automotive standards committee of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA). The principle of continuous improvement will remain at the heart of the strategy to reduce CO 2 emissions and increase resource efficiency. The aim is to significantly reduce CO 2 emissions per vehicle by at least one third across the entire spectrum. CO 2 emissions will then be less than 10% of what they were in 2006.
