At the Los Angeles Auto Show, Jeep unveiled the 2018 Wrangler, with new mild hybrid (eTorque) and diesel options to be available. The eTorque system improves fuel economy, launch performance, and driver comfort during start/stop operations. The bore diameter is 84 mm and the stroke is 90 mm. Total displacement is 1,995 cc.

Running on 87 octane, the front wheels (all-wheel drive is not available) are driven through a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that has five driver selectable drive modes of Eco, Normal, Sport, Slippery and Snow/Sand. Auto EV mode allows the computer to decide if the vehicle runs on gasoline or electricity.

On the eve of the Detroit Auto Show, Cadillac introduced the 2013 ATS, a new rear-drive compact luxury sports sedan developed on an all-new, lightweight vehicle architecture. GM says the ATS will be able to deliver peak highway fuel economy of more than 30 mpg. Even the oil volume is optimized for minimal weight.

The “wet” part of a DCT means it uses oil to improve lubrication and cooling. A “dry” DCT does not use oil, but is the more fuel efficient of the two types.
