For its next-gen models, BMW is turning to Croatian electric hypercar specialist Rimac for EV batteries. Rimac’s tech division will supply batteries for BMW’s future electric cars. FTC: We use income earning auto affiliate links. The Tier 1 tech supplier is owned and operated by the Rimac Group.

BMW says its historic plant in Munich will produce only electric cars from 2027, following a €650-million investment in expansion and upgrades, including the construction of a new vehicle assembly line and a new body shop. BMW’s Munich plant opened in 1922, and produced motorcycles until car production began there in 1952.

Next year, Ford is wrapping up production of the Focus at the Saarlouis plant, the only model built there, to transition to selling only BEV cars in Europe, reports Automotive News Europe. BYD was reported to be among the companies interested, but the Chinese automaker has since announced it is opening its first European plant in Hungary.

According to a press announcement , BMW’s Munich plant will be the first in the company’s existing production network to be transformed for all-electric cars. A new factory in Debrecen, Hungary, currently under construction, will also build only electric cars, with the upcoming Neue Klasse models planned to be built there in 2025.

“Despite the recent public debate, there is no doubt the future of the car is electric,” Audi’s boss explained. “At At Audi, we will electrify all core segments by 2027 and have defined a fully electric target portfolio.” The new electric car is expected to launch in 2027. It will follow the ID.2
