And in the last two weeks, one of the largest utility companies in the United States, Pacific Gas & Electric, announced plans to work with General Motors in experiments with their bidirectional charging technologies. In case of power outage at home, the DC pins in the charger can send juice back into the house, keeping the lights on.

Around the same time, however, General Motors and other automakers were in the process of decommissioning their battery EV fleets, the key component of V2G. The pair made major contributions to the propulsion system for the Impact , a battery-powered concept car that AeroVironment built under contract for General Motors.

Chinese auto will play a significant role in the auto industry in the future. The Japanese giants, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, are in denial, whereas the Americans giants, Ford and GM, are floundering. Only Tata Motors seems to have any sort of EV vision. These are international brands now. EV's are more efficient.

But it is a price that must be paid, and GM should be commended for remaining committed to the Volt. It isa fundamental change in direction for GM. GM is developing more fuel-efficient vehicles.
