Just under a year after the initial concept idea, Audi Sport has started testing the new Audi RS Q e-tron series hybrid, with which Audi will tackle the Dakar Rally in January 2022. —Andreas Roos, responsible for the Dakar project at Audi Sport. The drivetrain of the Audi RS Q e-tron is electric.

Audi unveiled its redesigned R18 diesel hybrid Le Mans racer for the 2016 World Endurance Championship (WEC) season. Among the new features in the R18 are a more radical aerodynamics concept, including a new safety cell; a Li-ion battery replacing the flywheel energy storage system; and a revised V6 TDI diesel engine. Audi says its Q4 e-tron compact crossover will enter the luxury EV marketplace in early 2021. It’s the second pure electric vehicle release for the Bavarian automaker, following the Audi e-tron SUV. The Q4 is the first e-tron to use the full MEB which will be the foundation of all Audi EVs and Volkswagen I.D. EVs to come.

Though just knowing that connected cars can be controlled in this manner does open up a lot of questions about security.

Deutsche Telekom provides both the telemetry hardware for the vehicles as well as the SIM-cards and data connections. Progressive Seattle-area automotive group Barrier Motors in Bellevue has already equipped 1,500 cars from their Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Porsche, and Volvo brands with the iCar Intelligent Car Technology Package.
