A report from the Arizona Public Interest Research Group (PIRG) found that switching to electric fleets could save $14 million in pollution-related expenses over the lifetime of the municipal vehicles—and that’s just in Arizona. Additionally, vehicle pollution is one of the largest contributors to climate change.

The 15 universities competing in EcoCAR 2 gathered in Yuma, Arizona last week for six days of vehicle testing and evaluation on drive quality and environmental impact at General Motors (GM) Desert Proving Ground. Each car was evaluated on reduced fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions as well as performance, utility and safety.
