Road Test: 2023 Mazda CX-50 AWD Mazda Wants You to Live A Little The 2023 CX-50 is part of Mazda’s SUV quiver, smallest to largest, of the CX-30, CX-5, CX-50 and CX-9. Mazda wants the CX-50 to be seen as its first-ever adventure-oriented SUV. Fuel economy is EPA rated at 23/29/25 mpg for the turbocharged CX-50.

Mazda has added another SUV to their lineup. This past week in Santa Barbara, Mazda invited the automotive media to drive the CX-50 on the highway, twisty mountain roads and then off-road to experience soft sand, steep climbs and descents. Mazda adds another SUV. All Mazda SUVs will now come only with all-wheel drive (AWD).

2021 Mazda CX-9 owners say things like “exceeds my expectations,” “I love it,” “it is one of the most beautiful cars on the road” and “super happy with my purchase.” At least that’s what Mazda says. The Mazda Connect connectivity system includes Bluetooth, voice recognition, Aha, Pandora and Stitcher radio integration.

Fuel economy is rated at 28 mpg city/36 highway/31 combined for the FWD Taos, with the AWD model returning 25/32/28. The flat roof leads to LED tail lights, and twin faux exhaust ports on the lower fascia. The 2022 Taos is roomy, has a quiet ride, plenty of power, and mid-thirties fuel economy. Very European.
