Moving goods by road consumes about 50% of all diesel produced; 80% of the global net increase in diesel use since 2000 comes from road freight. Ambitious fuel economy and CO 2 emission standards will help widespread deployment of these measures. Furthermore, road freight activity is set to more than double from 2015 to 2050.

Currently, only alternative fuel vehicles are exempt from the London Congestion Charge. Their outputs currently range from 89g/km of carbon dioxide (CO2) to 219g/km of CO2. DRIVe with start/stop technology (pictured below) emits a mere 104g/km of CO2 and was recently named as the What Car? Its own S40 1.6
