In each instance we’ve chosen the most affordable options using a single electric motor for propulsion, although in the case of the Polestar it had options fitted. And it’s the Polestar that is most affordable, at $63,900 before on-road costs. It’s a tempting offer, although the P2’s standard equipment list is skinnier.

There are also aftermarket companies (such as EV Stealth Solutions) working on a tow kit for the Model Y. Both get heated seats all round, a heated steering wheel, electric front seats, panoramic sunroof, electric front seats, powered tailgate/boot and the best connectivity in the business. But Tesla says it is coming in 2023.

I asked her about start-ups that she has liked, She talked of Bolt, which is setting up charging stations for two wheelers using 15 A plug points. There is an aluminium bus bar for connecting the cells in series. There is a quick charge station, which does end of the line rejection. These guys dock and charge on their own.

The four-door sedan will deliver 40 miles on a charge; a small gasoline engine will recharge the battery as it approaches depletion, extending its range by as much as 200 miles.
