In 2018, the share of incoming orders for vehicles equipped with the latest diesel technology as a proportion of the overall vehicle portfolio was 43% compared to 39% in 2017. Diesel engines emit up to 15% less CO 2 than comparable gasoline engines; the CO 2 benefits are greater for larger vehicles.

To reduce the variability in fuel use and exhaust emission rates related to variations in engine oil, engine oil was changed for each vehicle prior to the measurement using the first fuel. Each vehicle was measured on neat gasoline (E0); 10% ethanol by volume (E10) “regular” (E10R) and “premium” (E10P); and 27% ethanol by volume (E27).

According to Bosch, a realistic estimate is that diesel will be able to capture a 10% share of the light vehicle market by 2018. A recent example is the Chevrolet Cruze, for which Bosch supplies the diesel fuel injection system along with the exhaust-gas treatment system, engine control system, ceramic spark plugs, and sensors.
