The University of Kentucky Center for Applied Energy Research (CAER) received a $1 million U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) grant to continue their research in developing low-cost, high-strength carbon fiber. The center is home to the largest carbon fiber spinline at any university in North America.

The company is increasing line speed at its Kentucky Truck Plant to build more Lincoln Navigator and Ford Expedition SUVs, boosting production targets approximately 25% since last fall when the SUVs hit the market. 2018 Lincoln Navigator unveiled at New York Auto Show in 2017. Kentucky Truck Plant opened in 1969.

Selections were made under the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy’s Fuel Cell Technologies Office (FCTO) annual funding opportunity announcement (FOA) in 2017. Precursor Development for Low-Cost, High-Strength Carbon Fiber. 3 projects will reduce the cost of onboard hydrogen storage tanks necessary for fuel cell vehicles.

Tax credits for installing EV charging stations are available in a variety of forms, and many of them apply toward the cost of equipment and installation. It applies to installs dating back to January 1, 2017, and has been extended through December 31, 2021. It covers 30% of the cost for equipment and installation, up to $30,000.
