Buick announced that it will shortly launch the Velite 5, its first extended range electric vehicle (EREV), in China. Last year, Buick launched the all-new LaCrosse Hybrid Electric Vehicle and hosted the world premiere of the Velite Concept, which served as the template for future new energy vehicles under Buick’s strategy in China.

Half of the models to be introduced in 2017 under the Buick, Chevrolet, Cadillac, Baojun and Wuling brands will be SUVs or MPVs. Retail sales were up 11% year-on-year, marking the highest monthly sales growth in 2017. In the first 10 months of 2017, GM and its joint ventures in China delivered a record 3,130,862 units, up 2.2% Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and Baojun had their best October sales to date. Buick sales achieved 2.1% from a year earlier.

The Buick, Cadillac and Baojun brands reached all-time highs for July sales, while Chevrolet posted growth of 24% on an annual basis. GM’s performance was strong across segments, with SUVs remaining the biggest riser—generating growth of 50% year over year. In July, GM surpassed 2 million deliveries in China for 2017.

Baojun deliveries reached an all-time monthly high, while Buick, Cadillac and Chevrolet set November sales records. As the key driver of the company’s sustained growth, SUVs achieved sales growth of 73% from the previous November. Sales of the Equinox global SUV continued to grow as well, with deliveries topping 6,900 units.
