2015 target: 130 g CO 2 /km. Cars sold in Europe in 2013 were collectively 4% more efficient than the year before, according to provisional data from the European Environment Agency (EEA). The average CO 2 emissions level of a new car sold in 2013 was 127 g CO 2 /km; the target for 2015 was 130 g/km. 2020 target: 95 g CO 2 /km.

An innovative solution for managing traffic queues at international borders is the winner of the 2015 Transport Achievement Award offered by the International Transport Forum at the OECD. The service was developed as a response to kilometer-long queues of vehicles waiting to cross the EU border from Estonia into Russia.

Average carbon dioxide emissions per kilometer continue to fall in Europe, according to preliminary figures released by the European Environment Agency (EEA). Last year the EEA reported that manufacturers had some distance to go to meet the 2015 target. There were 12.8 million new vehicles registered in the EU in 2011.
