Voith is introducing a lateral energy absorber made of glass fiber reinforced plastics (GFRP) and aluminum. This new lightweight energy absorber is part of the mutable vehicle head concept Galea, but it can just as well be integrated into other front end systems. Earlier this month, Ford unveiled its Lightweight Concept vehicle, which uses advanced materials to explore future weight-reduction solutions that could improve performance and fuel efficiency while reducing CO 2 emissions. The result of this is reflected in the Ford concept. The cast aluminum or carbon fiber wheels saved 30%.
