Bob Lutz, former Vice Chairman of General Motors, will introduce an extended range electric (eREV) Pickup Truck, SUV and Van from VIA Motors, in a press conference at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit on 10 January. VIA Motors has begun taking orders for 2012 for its extended range electric pickup truck.

The Malibu ECO features GM’s eAssist light electrification technology ( earlier post ), which is engineered to deliver an estimated 26 mpg in city driving and 38 mpg on the highway. With eAssist technology, which also enables a numerically lower final drive ratio, the Malibu ECO can travel as much as 550 miles between fill-ups.

By 2012, all models sold in China will have the capability of being upgraded to comply with the Euro V (China Phase 5) emission standard. In 2011, the new Buick LaCrosse Hybrid, which will have 20% better fuel economy than the standard model, and the Chevrolet Volt electric vehicle with extended range capability will be introduced.

The EPA has rated the 2012 Fisker Karma luxury extended range electric vehicle as consuming 65 kWh/100 miles (52 MPGequivalent) when running in all-electric mode, having a 32-mile all-electric range, and consuming 5.1 EPA ratings are combined city/highway. Earlier post.).
