Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards and PBF Chalmette Refinery Manager Steven Krynski announced that the company is studying the possible conversion of an idled refinery unit into a renewable diesel production complex. The Chalmette refinery predominantly produces gasoline, distillates and specialty chemicals.

Louisiana-based startup New Oil Resources (NOR) is commercializing a near-critical (i.e., 320-390 °C, 200-420 bar) aqueous phase process which converts biomass containing cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin into a high-octane gasoline fraction. This product is similar to the high octane gasoline produced in petroleum refineries.

Air Products had operated two hydrogen pipeline systems in Texas and Louisiana before joining them with a new 180-mile segment. The company announced the pipeline project in 2010 and placed it onstream in August 2012 to begin supply of more than 1.2 billion cubic feet of hydrogen per day to Louisiana and Texas customers.
