Four new corporate partners—Best Buy, Johnson Controls, Pacific Gas and Electric, and Veolia—are joining the US Department of Energy’s (DOE) National Clean Fleets Partnership, a broad public-private partnership that assists the nation’s largest fleet operators in reducing the amount of gasoline and diesel they use nationwide.

Axial Vector Energy Corporation (AVEC) has developed a new hybrid electric drive train comprising a small axial-type, multi-fuel AVEC engine ( earlier post ), an AVEC generator/motor and an all new electric clutch. engine and 100 kW generator—in 2009. The new clutch is more than 80% efficient with less than 1% slip.

The agreement follows AFC’s announcement of 13 May 2009 on the agreement with Turtle Island Recycling Corporation for waste material as feedstock for the production of fuels and chemical feedstocks in Sarnia, Ontario.

Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation (FCCC), a subsidiary of Daimler Trucks North America, has made an initial 20 unit commercial commitment for a series hydraulic drive system from Parker Hannifin. The hydraulic hybrid improves fuel economy in three ways: recovered braking energy; improved engine efficiency; and its engine-off feature.
