The US State Department has issued a Presidential Permit to Enbridge Energy, Limited Partnership to enable construction of the Alberta Clipper pipeline for the transport of crude oil from the Canadian oil sands to US refineries. The 1,000-mile/1,607-km pipeline will run from Hardisty, Alberta, Canada, to Superior, Wisconsin.

The US Department of State (DOS) has released its Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) in response to TransCanada’s May 2012 application for the Keystone XL pipeline that would run from Canada’s oils sands in Alberta to Nebraska. The pipeline would primarily transport crude oil from the WCSB and Bakken regions.

The current global economic downturn will dampen world energy demand in the near term, as manufacturing and consumer demand for goods and services slows. World oil prices have fallen sharply from their July 2008 high mark. The EIA notes that experience demonstrates that world oil prices can be extremely volatile.

Like most people, I tend to drive less than 30 miles a day, so I won’t run out of charge. I charge my EV for 8 hours when I get to work, and then again overnight when I get home. Lutz is a man given to hyperbole — called global warming "a crock of shit" — but in this case, hes right. The four-door sedan will deliver 40 miles on a charge; a small gasoline engine will recharge the battery as it approaches depletion, extending its range by as much as 200 miles. Now all you hear is highway miles.
