As we all know, the 2000s didn't work out so well for Saturn , with the aging S Series replaced by the Opel Vectra -derived L Series and then by a bunch of machinery few were able to distinguish from other GM products. And, hey, Opel and Vauxhall remained in the GM Empire until fairly recently. But we're not here to mourn Saturn.

Created from the old GM’s strongest operations in an asset sale approved by the Federal bankruptcy court on 5 July ( earlier post ), the new GM is built on four core brands: Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and GMC. The four brands will offer a total of 34 nameplates by 2010, compared to old GM’s total of 48 in 2008 and 63 in 2004.

GM has announced plans for public sales in 2010, and almost every carmaker now says it will sell PHEVs or highway-speed battery electric vehicles (BEVs) sometime after 2010. Several dozen prototypes on 15-passenger van since 2004; now in second generation development; no production plans. todays answer is "Yes -- but not yet."
