Other GM initiatives include reducing water use by nearly 35% between 2005 and 2009 at manufacturing facilities worldwide; decreasing fossil fuel at GM plants by using landfill gas, hydro and solar power; recycling 90% of the waste the company generates; and operating 75 landfill-free facilities, more than half of its manufacturing plants globally.

As part of the agreement, emissions (or offtake gas) from various HeidelbergCement factories could provide Joule with the waste CO 2 required to feed its advanced Helioculture platform that effectively recycles CO 2 back into fuel. This initial relationship fits well with Joule’s strategy of turning waste CO 2 into liquid fuel.

Thats because electric engines are more efficient than internal-combustion engines, and because generating energy on a large scale (in coal or nuclear plants) is less wasteful than doing it on a small scale (by burning gasoline in an internal-combustion engine). Some Americans, though, are eager to do business with BYD.

Not to be outdone, on Tuesday the Norwegian electric car startup, Think, was in Portland being wooed by the state as one of 8 potential places to site their first car manufacturing facility in the United States. One thing is for sure; - electric cars bring down the air pollution, but they sure create another waste pollution problem.
