Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) will begin leasing approximately 200 plug-in versions of its third-generation Prius ( earlier post ) equipped with lithium-ion battery packs in Japan starting at the end of this year. TMC is also considering introducing plug-in hybrid vehicles in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Germany.

France will be the first country to participate in the three-year European pilot, with discussions ongoing in the UK, Germany and the Netherlands. In the future, the PHV will be the perfect complement to Prius. The first wave of PHVs will reach Strasbourg in late 2009.

The plug-in version of the third-generation Toyota Prius will be open to leasing at the end of this year in Japan. The company is also considering introducing plug-in hybrid vehicles in the United Kingdom, Germany and the Netherlands. Action plans will be developed over the summer.
