The 2016 Hyundai Sonata Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) is arriving in select dealerships in 10 states this week with an EPA-estimated 27-mile (43.5-kilometer) At the Sonata PHEV’s launch in January, Hyundai had estimated a 22-mile AER ( earlier post ), which it later bumped up to around 24 miles ( earlier post ).

Toyota has reduced the MSRP on the 2014 Prius Plug-in Hybrid by more than $2,000, making the starting MSRP $29,990 (excluding dealer preparation and handling, DPH). Hyundai unveiled the redesigned 2018 Sonata Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid models at the Chicago Auto Show. Although the powertrains remain the same, the new Sonata Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid feature a comprehensive exterior and interior redesign, safety, suspension and new and improved infotainment and connectivity features.

announced that the 2012 Prius Plug-in has been approved for the State of California’s Clean Vehicle Rebate Program ( CVRP ). The 2012 Prius Plug-in also offers consumers eligibility for the State of California’s HOV lane sticker. While in EV Mode, the Prius Plug-in is rated by the EPA to drive up to 11 miles.

People might be bored reading about the Prius but a review on four Priuses (2004, 2005, two 2006s) that my family owns that ran a total of 913k km (570k miles) should be interesting, right? I found a a 2004 with 247k km (154k miles) on the clock. l/100 km (51 mpg US) in the summer, and 5.3 l/100 km (44 mpg US) in winter.

MIT’s study concluded that hybrid vehicles that can sometimes be plugged in saved their owners more long-term dollars than compact, gasoline-powered cars (the most economically efficient model of the fossil fuel burners), but by slimmer margins than all-electric vehicles; in fact, some hybrid vehicles cost their owners more.
