Thanks in large part to Mayor "Red Ken" Livingstone, who enacted London's much criticized congestion charge policy in 2003. India's Reva was first into the market with the G-Wiz. The British Government is attempting to strangle the electric car baby in its London cradle. The Times Online reports the British government's Department for Transport (DfT) has conducted a safety test on the all-electric Reva G-Whiz and found it wanting. City government under Ken Livingston has been encouraging use of such cars.

Unfortunately for the current generation of electric vehicles, many will not be eligible for the grants, the government’s scheme is likely to assist the sales of the next generation of electric cars and hybrids (such as the plug-in hybrids) which by the government’s own confession are not expected to hit the UK roads until 2011.

We chatted up with Jayasuriya, the state head of TML for Electric Vehicle sales. The jet routinely flies at an altitude of 50,000 ft - and can do Bangalore London non stop. Jay’s first EV was the DC motor Reva, which he bought way back in the early 2000s. Sales are incidentally back to normal now. So was his wife.
