A crowdfunded London-based EV startup, Sparky Automotive , says it has developed a prototype for a riderless electric bike. With a 32 kWh pack, it offered a driving range of around 160 miles (250km). Their initial prototype was a traditional 3-door hatchback glider with an electric powertrain added.

Around 15 years ago, electric cars were typically only capable of covering less than 50 miles on a single charge. These days, some new releases like the Tesla Model S Long Range boast WLTP ranges above 400 miles. A more typical ‘real world’ range for most new EVs is in the region north of 150 miles. EVs are just city cars.

I certainly believe that in future there will be a much more complex mix of powertrains and fuels; hydrogen will never be as dominant as petrol, and fuel cells never as dominant as combustion engines. Q: You say that the Urban Car does an equivalent of 300 miles to the gallon, how is this calculated?

I remember reading about an Air India event to honour the frequent flyer who had the most miles under his belt. 15 to 20 per km to recover investments.
