The 2024 Nissan Leaf offers up an experience that leads to a bit of cognitive dissonance. Nissan utilizes the Leaf’s space well, but the materials look and feel a bit outdated – and the weird shifter is a bit annoying. I visited my parents and siphoned some juice very slowly from their garage. Nissan’s Leaf is fairly likeable.

Plugin hybrids (PHEVs) took just 4.8% PHEV’s relatively low share was not due to their fall in volume, rather that the volume of BEVs and petrol vehicles were much higher than usual. The Nissan Leaf has fallen from #6 to #15. In the bigger picture, every powertrain other than BEVs is now in decline, even PHEVs.

Although Tesla gets the headlines (and stock price boost), Nissan and Chevrolet make the sales. Workplace charging certainly isn’t a concern of Tesla S owners, but it should become the focus for getting drivers into EVs and PHEVs. With leases in the $200 - 300 range, for commuters the numbers already add up.

Millions will plug-in their electric vehicles (EV), plug-in hybrids (PHEV) and fuel cell vehicles (FCV) at night when electricity is cheap, then plug-in during the day when energy is expensive and sell those extra electrons at a profit. Millions of EVs and PHEVs would expand the sale of electricity as an alternative to oil.

Nissan is working on an electric car that it says is on track to have a 100-mile range and 26-minute charge time. The Renault-Nissan Alliance launched a pilot project in Arizona earlier this month to test out a charging network ahead of the planned 2010 launch of its electric vehicle.
