Only available in the US beginning in March of 2021, the hot-selling Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) was apparently the top-selling PHEV in the US last year. So, we do know the sales numbers for most of the top-selling EVs and a strong sense of the two top-selling Tesla models.

Jeep global CEO Christian Meunier closed out 2021 by announcing his brand’s goal of becoming the “zero emission freedom brand,” with the Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid (PHEV) as its first example. Among electric vehicles from automakers that report specific sales numbers for their EV models, the Toyota RAV4 Prime PHEV was tops in the US in 2021 with 27,3707 units sold. Another top-selling EV beyond Tesla models that is not included is the Jeep Wrangler 4xe PHEV, which likely saw 2021 sales of between 20,000-25,000.

And I’m one those million since they’re counting plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) as well as full battery electrics. California’s plug-in vehicle sales tally is impressive: 663,014 battery electrics (62.9%). Sales just topped a quarter-million with Tesla’s four models accounting for more than half of the overall sales.
