Ford Motor Company announced the C-MAX Solar Energi Concept, a sun-powered hybrid vehicle that can deliver the efficiency of a plug-in hybrid without depending on the electric grid for recharging. This could be especially important in places where the electric grid is underdeveloped, unreliable or expensive to use.

BMW i ChargeForward Program to demo contribution of intelligent EV charging to grid efficiency

US DOE Awards More than $47M in Recovery Act Funding to Advance Smart Grid Development; New Smart Grid Report and Smart Grid Clearinghouse

The US Department of Energy delivered more than $47 million in funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for eight projects to further smart grid demonstration projects in seven states. Horizon Unveiling Small Hydrogen Refueling and Storage System for the Home

Horizon Fuel Cell Technologies will introduce a “personal hydrogen station”—HydroFill—at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week. HydroFill plugs into an AC outlet (using an adapter), or to a 60W solar panel or small wind turbine. In 2006, Horizon introduced solar hydrogen powered toy cars.

Honda Motor Europe: 2/3 of European sales to feature electrified powertrains by 2025; “Electric Vision”

Honda will also make plug-in hybrid, battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles commercially available to European customers. It would pick up and drop off customers at local destinations, and could also sell energy back to the electric grid during times of high demand when it‘s sitting idle, further monetizing the vehicle’s down time.
