a company that has developed a low-cost hybrid electric powertrain designed specifically for class 1-3 commercial fleet use ( earlier post ), will display a Chevrolet Express 2500 cargo van fitted with the company’s hybrid technology at the 2012 Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Energy Conference Energy Showcase on 16 March.

The hybrid technology is available for the Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana cargo and passenger vans, and XL Hybrids is expanding its product lineup to include other makes and models of popular fleet vehicles, including Chevrolet and Ford vans and pickup trucks. XL Hybrids was founded by MIT alumni and is based in Boston.

GMC is targeting about 350 miles from a roughly 200-kilowatt-hour pack, the largest ever fitted to an electric vehicle.

Interestingly, a 2019 Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) study predicted that as EVs became more widespread, battery prices would climb because the demand for lithium and other battery metals would rise sharply. Volvo CEO Jim Rowan , disagrees with both of them, however, seeing ICE-EV price parity coming by 2025-2026.
