Nissan will introduce zero-emission vehicles in the United States in 2010 and will mass market them globally two years later. The Renault-Nissan Alliance has begun ZEV initiatives in Kanagawa Prefecture and Yokohama in Japan, as well as in Israel, Denmark, Portugal, Monaco, the United Kingdom, France, Switzerland, Ireland and China.

Nissan and Europcar—the European leader in passenger car and light utility vehicle rentals—are forming a partnership to market electric vehicles by 2010 and advance zero-emission mobility on a global scale. To date, the Alliance has signed two final agreements in Europe with Portugal and the Principality of Monaco.

The Renault–Nissan Alliance, the Province of British Columbia, the City of Vancouver and BC Hydro announced a partnership that will see British Columbia become the first Canadian province to receive the Nissan LEAF, Nissan’s first all-electric “real-world” car, in 2011, in advance of global distribution in 2012.

Nissan will launch its first zero emission EVs in Japan and the US next year before mass marketing them globally from 2012. Although no commitment beyond the feasibility study has been made at this stage, the MoU represents an important step toward the potential launch of electric vehicles in the UK in the near future.

The Renault-Nissan Alliance, which says it aims to be the global leader in zero-emission mobility, will bring electric vehicles to China in early 2011, making China one of the first countries to be supplied with electric vehicles from the Alliance. In 2012, Nissan and Renault will mass-market electric vehicles globally.

The Alliance and Elektromotive signed a Memorandum of Understanding on studying ways to promote the use of electric vehicles and will share information on EV development and energy supply on a global scale. The resulting ‘conversation’ can exchange data and discuss billing, power requirement identification, transaction security and safety.
