The Leon Verde (“Green”) prototype is the culmination of the four-year Cenit Verde research project in Spain, and was presented at the official closing event of the project. TSI gasoline engine with a 75 kW electric motor. l/100 km (147 mpg US), with 36 g/km CO 2 ; all-electric range is 31 miles (50 km).

The Ampera is an extended range electric vehicle based on the Voltec technology used in the Chevrolet Volt. Equipped with a 16 kWh Li-ion battery pack, the five-door, four-seat hatchback has a battery-powered range of up to 60 km (37 miles) (MVEG cycle). More than 220 lithium-ion cells in the T-shaped pack provide power.

On the heels officially introducing the Focus Electric last week ( earlier post ), Ford revealed two next-generation hybrids—including its first production plug-in hybrid (PHEV)—at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. This allows it to run in electric mode before using the gasoline engine.

After that, an onboard gasoline generator kicks on to recharge the battery, extending the range by 250 miles between fill-ups.
