The US Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory and the sustainable energy NGO Energy Vision released two case studies assessing the results of projects that were among the first to produce Renewable Compressed Natural Gas (R-CNG) vehicle fuel by using anaerobic digesters to capture the biogases from decomposing organic waste.

In comparison to the fleet of conventional transmissions they replaced, TorqueFlites promise to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than six million metric tonnes over the same timeframe. That quantity of gasoline is worth approximately $2.5 billion at the pump, based on current fuel-price forecasts.

At the 2023 Indianapolis 500 on May 28 in Indianapolis, Indiana, all 33 cars will be running on Shell 100-percent renewable biofuel, using carbon neutral motor oil, and rolling on Firestone Firehawk tires made with recycled plastics. CHrysler’s current research efforts include various strategies to warm engines and transmissions faster; to have the vehicles run at an ideal set point; and to recapture waste heat. Chrysler plans to initiate fleet-wide integration of this fuel-saving start/stop technology on a global basis, including certain models in North America.
