The University of Michigan is working with two US Department of Energy national laboratories to study whether connected and automated vehicles could help people drive more efficiently. U-M, with Argonne National Laboratory and Idaho National Laboratory, won a three-year, $2.7 million grant from DOE to fund the research.

The project will deploy 502 alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles through 119 public and private fleets throughout the state. ChargePoint America will offer hundreds of free stations for public and home charging to individuals and businesses throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, including San Jose, for use by individual vehicle owners and by fleets. The first two ChargePoint America stations are now installed at the McEnery Convention Center Parking Center.
