This SAE spec would make it so you could go to a gas station and they would have the proper voltage and plug for your car. Once weve consolidated everything to depend on the grid, we can clean up everything by cleaning up the grid. but its never even been close to the amount of garbage that gas power vehicles produce.

The electric grid is the most advanced energy-distribution network ever created and is constantly only a few feet away from us (far more ubiquitous than gas/ethanol/hydrogen stations). The first step was the hybrid, which proved to the world that electric power can reduce gas consumption.

Also, besides giving you the ability to charge at night when most utility rates are lower, future vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology may allow you to sell some of your stored energy back to the utilities. Most charge points available today take much longer to re-energize batteries than it does to fill a gas-powered cars tank.

For on-the-go juice ups, the idea is to exchange your dead battery for a fresh one owned by Better Place. Extended-range electric vehicles — such as the Chevy Volt, which GM says will recharge in three hours — offer another route, adding a small gas engine to keep drivers from feeling stranded without access to fuel.

Ive found it facinating how car commercials changed the main MPG number they promoted before gas went over $4 a gallon as city miles. By the time he finally, and happily, got rid of it, he said the friggin piece of junk used more gas than his small Honda because tow trucks get crappy milage. The management at GM are liars.
