Honda announced that the upcoming Clarity Fuel Cell ( earlier post ) will be joined by two additional electrified variants, the Clarity Electric and Clarity Plug-in Hybrid, launching in the US in 2017. On a global basis, Honda is aiming to have electrified vehicles account for two-thirds of its vehicles sales around 2030.

The comparison between an electric and gasoline vehicle is more than the cost of energy used (one thing to keep in mind is the retail price of electircity at a public fast-charging site is substantially higher than the cost of electricity for home charging). Pricing for the Circuit has not been announced but will likely undercut the Tesla. Some will be electric-only, others will be extended-range vehicles in which a gasoline engine will generate electricity on board after about 40 miles of driving on a fully charged battery. They will also differ greatly in terms of vehicle type.

General Motors Chevy Volt series PHEV, which it calls "extended range electric vehicle" (EREV), part of "E-Flex" multi-fuel platform.
