GM has been saying for a while now that they had picked their supplier for the LiIon battery in the Volt, but they weren’t prepared to announce who it was. Chances are, GM will start with CP (hey, those are Chris Paine’s initials!), GM Reported Ready To Give Volt Battery Nod to Unit of LG Chem. that got the nod.

According to Ford , a driver can roll this beast into a garage mounted with the $1310 80-amp Ford Charge Station Pro, where its AC pins can deliver a full overnight charge at 19 kW output to the truck’s 98 kWh (131 kWh if you have the extended extra-big-range) lithium-ion battery. It's official, the Cadillac Converj is to be the second extended-range electric vehicle after the Volt. I only wish GM had the smarts back in the day to have rebranded the EV1 as a Caddy and continued limited run production. The first Level III chargers deployed by Etec will offer free juice.

The Ramcharger is whats known as an extended-range electric vehicle, or EREV. Extended-Range EVs: The Long Haul With batteries and gasoline working in tandem, the Ramcharger has an extended range of 1,110 km (690 miles), dwarfing the 824-km range of the Lucid Air Grand Touring , the current EV long-distance champ.

Therefore, until we get quick-charge batteries -- based on new breakthroughs, Ill take a WAG and estimate that we will have real 5-minute quick-charge batteries in perhaps 10 years -- we are likely to get our juice mostly from our home chargers. my idea is that it would work the way propane tanks work now.

For on-the-go juice ups, the idea is to exchange your dead battery for a fresh one owned by Better Place. Extended-range electric vehicles — such as the Chevy Volt, which GM says will recharge in three hours — offer another route, adding a small gas engine to keep drivers from feeling stranded without access to fuel.
