The e-gas plant only operates when there is too much electricity from renewable sources in the grid. The e-gas is virtually identical to fossil natural gas and is distributed via an existing infrastructure—the German natural gas network—to the CNG filling stations beginning in Germany in fall 2013.

A first test setup located near Ingolstadt recently started supplying the grid. With AWC, the energy is transferred via a floor charging plate connected to the electric grid.
