Second generation Smart EV on its way

Having already made significant in-roads into the electric vehicle market, Smart is now planning to introduce its second generation electric drive Smart Fortwo with production to begin in early November. The second generation of the vehicle boasts a 14kWh lithium-ion battery pack from Tesla Motors housed between the axles and a 30kW electric motor that is fitted at the rear and offers 120Nm of torque. The vehicle is based on the Smart Fortwo Coupe/Cabrio Passion.

Tesla and Daimler to launch plug-in electric cars

The future is green for Tesla Motors and its partner Daimler AG, as they plan to launch two plug-in electric vehicles in the near future. In an interview with the Green Car Advisor , Tesla Motors’ CEO Elon Musk also said that Tesla would be replacing its current generation Roadster with a larger, four-seat sports car in 2013. The companies, working as partners, will bring two plug-in hybrid vehicles to life in the next few years beginning with the Smart EV roadster.
