Technology group Wärtsilä will power the biggest battery electric ship yet built with its battery-electric propulsion system and waterjets. The uniquely designed vessel will be fully battery powered, with e-motor driven Wärtsilä waterjets as the main propulsors. The vessel will operate between Argentina and Uruguay.

Pike Research forecasts that the global market for all electric-drive buses—including hybrid, battery electric, and fuel cell buses—grow steadily over the next. The Latin American market will be driven largely by uptake in Brazil, but other countries will also spur adoption, notably Uruguay which recently indicated it.

Toshihiro Suzuki, President of Suzuki Motor Corp, who was present at the Vibrant Gujarat Summit, said that the Indian automotive market has been expanding steadily to become the third largest automobile market. Some of the other major investments in green energy in the state include that of power company NTPC.
