A GMC Hummer EV weighs over 9,000 pounds, up from about 6,000 pounds. Now I want to be clear: I am inspired by the Administration’s commitment to phasing out carbon emissions. The US transportation sector accounts for the largest portion of US greenhouse gas emissions, and I firmly believe it is a human right to breathe clean air.

All models have dual motors for four-wheel drive capability and the F-150 Lightning sells from about US$50K (minus taxes and on-road costs), which is US$10K more than it launched at. It has now re-established it as an electrified sub-brand of GMC. Less expensive and powerful Hummers will launch later.

The morning session started out with an hour long press conference, the highlight being the unveiling of the Volt’s 230 mpg preliminary EPA city fuel economy finding ( earlier post ), as well as a tour showing selected elements from the studios of the four GM North American brands: Chevrolet, GMC, Buick and Cadillac. She mentioned that an electric GMC Hummer weighs about 9,000 pounds (4,000 kilograms), with a battery pack that weighs 2,900 pounds (1,300 kilograms) on its own which is roughly the weight of a regular Honda Civic. She claims that the Mustang Mach E electric SUV and the Volvo XC40 EV are around 33% heavier than their fuel versions.

According to a price survey conducted by BloombergNEF , automakers soon will be producing models that are “as affordable—and as profitable—as comparable combustion engine models, and without the help of tax subsidies.” And many higher end models from Tesla, Lucid, GMC, Rivian, and others will approach 400 or more miles.
