Originally launched back in 2021 under Nexport with the E6 and T3 models, BYD’s sales didn’t take off until the arrival of the Atto 3 small SUV in 2022 under the stewardship of EVDirect. Today BYDs line-up includes the Dolphin, Seal, Atto 3, and Sealion 7, as well as the Sealion 6 and Shark 6 plug-in hybrids.

In MY 2013, there were 11 EVs and 4 PHEVs available in the market; MY 2014 has 12 (counting the Tesla Model S 60 and 80 as one) EVs on the market and 10 PHEVs, along with the lone CNG car, the Honda Civic. (In In this tally, the BMW i3 counts as an EV in its battery-only configuration and as a PHEV when equipped with a range extender.)

Exceeding its initial program targets, the plug-in 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid ( earlier post ) has earned an electric-mode fuel economy rating of 84 miles-per-gallon-equivalent (MPGe) from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid also excelled on two other fronts. liter V-6.

BYD Auto reportedly has sold less than 100 of its F3DM (dual-mode) plug-in hybrid electric vehicles ( earlier post ) through August. Earlier this year, the Chinese automaker unveiled the e6, the world’s first 5-seater EV that can run 400 kilometers on a full charge, at the Detroit Motor Show.

BYD’s growth has been astounding in recent years, especially if you go all the way back to the severely limited and laughed-at BYD e6! With the company starting off with that EV, it was hard to imagine it would have the brightest of futures, but as the company has evolved.

I’m going to be honest — when the BYD e6 was the company’s “popular” electric vehicle, mostly with taxi companies, I was not particularly bullish on the. BYD has now become the first automaker to produce 10 million plugin vehicles (or “new energy vehicles” as they are called in China).
