ARPA-E awarding $39M to 16 projects to grow the domestic critical minerals supply chain

Green Car Congress

Travertine will develop the design basis for a 1 ton/day CO 2 removal system to demonstrate the technical feasibility and commercial viability of this concept, taking it from proof-of-concept to field-ready. Leached critical elements are recovered as oxides, while carbonate minerals are precipitated using carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) from the air.

Converting Coal Power Plants to Nuclear Gains Steam

Cars That Think

Many still-speculative small modular reactor designs might deliver just a few hundred megawatts. (In Depending on the design, these could be cooled with less water or even air, making them far more feasible fits for coal sites. In West Virginia, once coal’s citadel, the state government eliminated its old ban on nuclear power plants.

Study identifies halogen-free superhalogen electrolytes for Li-ion batteries

Green Car Congress

An in-depth study based on first-principles calculations by researchers at Virginia Commonwealth University has shown that the anions of commercially available electrolytes for Li-ion batteries are all superhalogens. The implication of our research is that similar strategies can also be used to design cathode materials in Li-ion batteries.
