Italvolt Spa has selected ABB for Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) for its planned 45 GWh gigafactory in Italy. The gigafactory will be located at the famous Olivetti site and is being designed by iconic Italian automotive design house division Pininfarina Architecture.

The world lost one of its preeminent car designers today, as Marcello Gandini has passed away at the age of 85. Though perhaps best known for the flashy and outrageous Lamborghini Countach, Gandini’s pen was applied to many other Italian, German, French, British, Japanese, and Swedish concepts and production designs.

Pininfarina and Bolloré, which set up a 50-50 joint venture at the beginning of 2008 with the purpose of designing, developing, manufacturing and distributing an electric car, displayed the latest version of the Pininfarina BLUECAR at the Geneva Motor Show on the Véhicules Électriques Pininfarina-Bolloré stand.

First up was a change in styling leadership: Harley Earl (1893-1969) who designed GM vehicles from 1927 when he penned the LaSalle, was the first director of GM’s styling division, the “Art and Color Section.” The department was created for Earl to manage by GM president Alfred Sloan, who was incredibly impressed with the LaSalle design.

The production version of the Pininfarina designed Bluecar EV was displayed at the Geneva Auto Show this year. As Angori stated in an interview with Italy's Sore. CEO Silvio Pietro Angori confirmed that production is on schedule and this vehicle is set for its debut in 2011.
