Depending on an individual’s tax situation, the Spark EV ( earlier post ) is eligible for federal tax credit up to $7,500. California and Maryland Spark EV owners may also qualify for a $2,500 California state rebate or $2,300 Maryland excise tax exemption. A 120V charge cord set comes standard.

Toyota has reduced the MSRP on the 2014 Prius Plug-in Hybrid by more than $2,000, making the starting MSRP $29,990 (excluding dealer preparation and handling, DPH). For whatever reason, all EVs get the full $7500 applied to leases, however.

The Sonata Plug-in Hybrid will be distributed in California, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island and Vermont, but customers in any of the other states can custom order the vehicle at their local Hyundai dealer. LED headlamps are optional and LED taillights and DRLs are standard.

Federal Incentives for Purchasing an EV Among the federal government’s incentives for drivers, you can find tax breaks for both new and used EVs that are in place until the end of 2032. Beginning in 2024, the consumer clean vehicle tax credits can be available at the point of sale by transferring your credit to the dealership.

Hyundai will initially offer the Sonata Plug-in Hybrid in the ZEV states—California, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island and Vermont—in 2015. Recharge time ranges from less than three hours at a 240V Level-Two charging station to less than nine hours using a standard 120V outlet.
