General Motors and Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Co., Ltd (Tengzhong) have entered into a definitive agreement that will allow Tengzhong to acquire GM’s HUMMER brand. It will also assume the existing dealer agreements relating to HUMMER’s dealership network. Citi is acting as financial advisor to GM.

Due to what it termed “ strong public interest ” in the Chevrolet Volt, General Motors will increase US production capacity of the Volt by 50%, from 30,000 units to 45,000 units, in 2012. The announcement came as US President Barack Obama toured the Detroit-Hamtramck facility, where the Volt is being produced now for sale later this year.

General Motors Co. and Nissan have signed an agreement for Nissan to produce a small cargo vehicle that GM will sell in the United States and Canada.
