ABB’s fast charging solutions are based on IEC 61851-23 , the international standard for fast charging of electric vehicles. buses from other manufactures can also be charged.

As previously announced ( earlier post ), Volvo Buses will officially launch the new plug-in 7900 Electric Hybrid bus at the International IAA Commercial Vehicles show in September. The DC/DC unit replaces the conventional alternator. Hamburg, Luxembourg and Stockholm will implement the new bus system in 2014 and 2015.

ABB and Volvo Buses are partnering to co-develop and to commercialize electric and hybrid buses with open standards-based direct current (DC) fast charging systems. The power requirements are also lower: 150kW for the hybrid electric bus and 300 kW for electric bus. The system is based on internationally certified standards.
