The conference was sold out; it was also essentially a PowerPoint-free zone; the basic format relied heavily on brief introductory remarks from sets of speakers representing the diverse stakeholders, followed by questions from attendees. The impact from plug-in electric vehicles on the grid could be very substantial.

If everyone could hear Ed talk about the smart grid and how plug-in cars make it possible to inventory electricity then we’d already be building that grid today. Another of my favorite people on the Southern California environmental scene is State Senator Fran Pavley who also spoke at the press conference.

The morning session started out with an hour long press conference, the highlight being the unveiling of the Volt’s 230 mpg preliminary EPA city fuel economy finding ( earlier post ), as well as a tour showing selected elements from the studios of the four GM North American brands: Chevrolet, GMC, Buick and Cadillac.
