Jaguar Land Rover and the UK’s Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) are jointly funding an £11-million (US$17-million) research program to develop fully autonomous cars. Five projects were selected and Jaguar Land Rover will be leading the collaboration with these successful research groups.

Brunel University London is the first to begin researching future powertrain concepts using Camcon Automotive ’s new Single Cylinder Intelligent Valve Technology (SCI). Jaguar Land Rover has been an R&D partner throughout the project. iVT has been designed for ease of manufacture and affordability.

Jaguar will develop the micro-turbine hybrid C-X75 concept car ( earlier post ) as a limited production supercar (maximum of 250), priced at between £700,000 - £900,000 (US$1.15 - $1.48 Newsome was at Jaguar Land Rover as Group Chief Engineer for Advanced Product Creation and Research between 2001 and 2007.

Under the agreement, EVO Electric will be responsible for the design and manufacture of generators based on its advanced Axial Flux technology. MAHLE Powertrain will be responsible for engine design, development and manufacture plus the overall system integration and marketing of the concept to vehicle manufacturers and industry observers.
