Achates Power was awarded a $5-million cooperative agreement from the US Department of Energy in 2020 for a new two-cylinder prototype demonstration and concept design of a next-generation medium-duty commercial vehicle opposed-piston engine. Demonstration vehicles will be on the road in 2021 in a commercial fleet application.

This is of course very positive as it accelerates the transition towards more sustainable transport solutions. The roll-out of additional electric vehicles and related services will continue with high pace and later this year, it will also include heavy-duty trucks for regional transports or construction.

The company determines that the fuel cell system can also be used in different areas, such as fuel cell vehicles (FCEV), commercial vehicles, stationary power stations, and construction equipment. In collaboration with Isuzu Motors and Dongfeng Motor Group, Honda has started testing fuel cell heavy-duty vehicles.

FirstCNG will receive $300,000 to construct a compressed natural gas fueling station in Lake Forest (Orange County) to support taxis and other commercial vehicles near the John Wayne Airport.
