The US Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded FuelCell Energy $8 million in Phase 2 funding for the previously announced ARPA-E project for development of ultra-high efficiency SOFC systems for power generation ( earlier post ). Electrolysis uses electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen, the opposite of fuel cell operation.
