The concept behind V2G had gained traction in the late 1990s after California’s landmark zero-emission-vehicle (ZEV) mandate went into effect and compelled automakers to commercialize electric cars. In such an emergency, a bidirectional EV with charge to spare could come to the rescue.

ACE-EV X1 Transformer – Australian-based start-up plans a small range of affordable EVs focused on light commercial duties. $5 BMW M cars – they’re coming with hybrid drivetrains. It’ll be more expensive than a regular Transit but with lower running costs. Soon, apparently.

It is simply the cost of doing business. "On some products, the costs, particularly in advanced technologies, are high," he said in a lengthy interview with Automotive News (free subscription required). The car is expected to cost around $40,000. "Even the first DVD player cost many times more than it does today."
